(Lawyer says this should be in the first screen of all files. Real
stuff is two screens down.)
Qfonedit, a copyrighted product, is a trademark of Karl Brendel.
License to use Qfonedit is granted without charge, subject to the
restrictions listed below. License to copy and distribute Qfonedit
and its documentation is also granted without charge, subject to the
same restrictions.
To register Qfonedit, or to inquire about marketing, site licensing,
or any other matters regarding Qfonedit, please contact Karl Brendel.
The restrictions:
1. Copies of Qfonedit must contain this license information, the
copyright and trademark notices, and the warranty disclaimers in
full.
2. Copies of Qfonedit may not be sold without the written permission
of the author. However, except for the "enhanced" version of
Qfonedit, users' groups and bona fide not-for-profit organizations may
distribute Qfonedit and charge a nominal amount (not to exceed $10)
for materials, shipping and handling, without written permission.
(Only Karl Brendel may distribute the enhanced version.) Such
distribution must include a statement that fees collected by the
distributor are not paid to Karl Brendel, are not in lieu of
registration, and do not grant license beyond that specified in this
manual. (Satisfying restriction 1 satisfies this restriction as
well.)
3. Commercial users of Qfonedit must register and pay for their
copies of Qfonedit within 30 days of first use or their license is
withdrawn.
4. Users of Qfonedit must accept this disclaimer of warranty:
"Qfonedit is supplied as-is. The author disclaims all warranties,
expressed or implied, including, without limitation, the warranties
of merchantability and of fitness for any purpose. The author assumes
no liability for damages, direct or consequential, which may result
from the use of Qfonedit."
Qfonedit 3.00 has significant changes from earlier releases.
Major changes:
--Supports Qmodem 3.00 fon file structure (of course) with editing
of all fields and separate clearing of the Password field.
--Displays licensing and warranty information during startup, and
waits for a keypress to continue. You DON'T need a patch to
bypass this, tho! If you start up with /f after the name
Qfonedit, you'll go right past it. (/f for "fast".)
--The Main Menu now pops up over the middle portion of the screen.
The reason for this is that using the Main Menu is now totally
optional. See next:
--All Main Menu functions are available from the Editor, by using
AltKeys to call them. Eg., from the Main Menu, C calls the Clear
routine; from the Editor, AltC calls the Clear routine.
--In configuration, you can set the following new items for
prompts, etc.: Choose whether to work primarily from the Editor
or the Main menu. Turn off the "Go?" prompt. Turn off the check
for snow on cga-type video cards. (Superfast screen writes if
off.) Default drive\path for print file.
--New routine Register displays licensing and registration info,
and can print out a registration order form.
--In the Editor, blocks can be "marked", like in a text editor.
Other routines will accept "M - Marked" to define the blocks
they operate on. You may never need a line number again....
(Foreground and background colors for marked blocks can be set
in configuration.)
--New routine Move relocates defined block without requiring Clear
and/or Insert and/or eXchange.
--From Main Menu, Esc doesn't exit Qfonedit, but instead goes to
Editor. Q exits. (AltQ from the Editor.) If you get any prompt
on the way out (save file, etc.), Esc will stop the quit process
and leave you in Qfonedit.
--New routine New loads a new fon file without quitting Qfonedit.
Prompts for saving old one, just like when Quitting. Can be used
as a down'ndirty save.
--New routine Locate searches the defined block to match a string
in the Name field. If found, displays that page and makes that
line the marked cursor line. (Since you can run Qfonedit from
the Qmodem AltV command, you can use this for a quick way to
find a particular entry while in Qmodem.)
--The Protocol fields in the Editor and configuration accept just
about anything but spaces (blanks) and control chars.
--F1 calls up on-line help if it finds QFONEDIT.HLP.
Major policy change:
Starting with this release, the freely-distributed (ie., unregis-
tered) version of Qfonedit no longer reads or saves the file
QFONEDIT.CNF. You can still set all configuration values within the
program, including reading the colors and default com params from
QMODEM.CNF, but Qfonedit will "forget" them each time you quit.
Registered users who pay (or have paid in the past) at least $10 to
me (not to a sig or library or huckster) will be able to obtain the
"enhanced" version of Qfonedit by sending me a diskette, etc., or an
extra $5 for expenses. Details are in the users' manual.
The enhanced, registered version will also have full on-line help.
(I know that's mentioned as a feature above, but in the "bbs" version,
it just calls up a msg telling you why you don't get it.)
The code for saving and reading the config file has been completely
omitted from the bbs Qfonedit, so don't look for a patch to fix it.
I'm sorry for any inconvenience this causes to presently registered
users. You should have received, or soon will, a card announcing this.
I'll turn around those diskettes or change the $ into diskettes as
quickly as I can so you can be running the enhanced version that your
payments have helped me hang in and create.
For the rest of "my" users, let's get those registrations in, folks!
Looking forward to hearing from you--
